15th St. Fisheries
15th St. Fisheries: 1900 SE 15th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Now those of you who know me will be shaking your heads when you read that I was at a seafood restaurant, but we stopped off at 15th St. Fisheries on a Saturday afternoon. The reason being, I don’t eat seafood, as you will see from my food choice below. However, it was a beautiful day out on the boat with great friends, and most of the other places we tried to stop at were just way too busy.
So my friend Chris docked at their marina area, and we decided to get some food to go. The great thing about being on a boat is you can eat your meal anywhere you want. You can get to this restaurant by land or sea. The fun way to do it is sailing up and docking there, but most people just drive their car into the nice-sized parking lot at the marina.
The Restaurant:
One of the cool things about 15th St. Fisheries is that live fish and other sea life surround you. People always enjoy feeding the tarpon and other species of fish that swim alongside the restaurant. If you enter from the parking lot/street area, you will cross over a koi pond. It’s pretty cool seeing them swim around looking for food. Once inside, you are greeted by the hostess desk and several aquariums.
As you walk into the main part of the restaurant, there are several sections. Upstairs is reserved for dinner normally, but there are areas for private parties as well. The next section is a huge bar area with plenty of seating. There are several sections to the restaurant and a couple of different decks that go around the outside. You have a mix of high-top tables and chairs and low-top tables and chairs. Most of the seating is outdoors or at least open to the outdoors, which makes for a great time here in South Florida.
The Food:
For our food, two of us land lovers chose to go with the Fisheries Cheeseburger. 15th St. Fisheries uses their own custom Angus beef blend of chuck, short rib, and brisket, topped with American cheese, applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion on a toasted brioche bun. While I know this place is known for its fresh off the boat seafood, 15th St. Fisheries should also know them for their burgers. This was one of the best burgers that we had and cooked exactly how I ordered it. I love crips bacon, and they use a thick cut cooked crispy. As my side item, I got the french fries, and again they were cooked to the perfect crispness and tasted so good.
Chris went with the Cobia on Caesar salad. I had never heard of this fish before, but it appeared to be a nice flaky fish that he had blackened. Normally this is on the dinner menu, but he asked if he could have it over a salad which they gladly did. Chris said it was one of the best pieces of fish he has had in a while, and with the speed in which he ate it, I would have to agree.
Ken decided to go more traditional for lunch with coconut shrimp and a side of fries. The coconut breading on the shrimp was crispy and enhanced the natural flavors of the shrimp. He was delighted with the medium-sized shrimp that he received. He also had no problem getting the french fries to disappear.
Pricing $$-$$$$: The pricing at 15th St. Fisheries will vary depending on if you are there for lunch or dinner. Other things will play into, like the cocktails or wine you order and adding in starters and dessert. But no matter when you go you will not be disappointed.
