Corner Cafe 29 – Collegeville
Corner Cafe 29: 1850 S Collegeville Rd Collegeville, PA 19426
While visiting family in PA we came across this little cafe in a strip mall. They are a family owned and run business, with their Mother and Father spending most of their time in their King of Prussia location. The son Joseph is usually at their Collegeville location.
The Restaurant:
From the outside, the place looks like it is very small. But once inside, you will notice several booths, a few tables, and a small counter that sits about 4 people. Corner Cafe 29’s kitchen is open so that you can see everyone cooking and there is eclectic signs and diner memorabilia hanging on all the walls. They are strictly a breakfast and lunch place, so you better get there before 3pm.
The menus is a traditional mix of diner style breakfasts and lunch items. You can build your own omelette, choose a specialty one, or have a breakfast sandwich. The lunch menus has all kinds of salads, sandwiches (hot and cold) club sandwiches, and hoagies (you are in the Philly area after all). I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the steak sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs.
The menu at Corner Cafe 29 is definitely very robust and I am sure anyone could find something to eat here.
The Food:
We happened to be there for breakfast, so we chose a few options from that menu. Jerry chose to try their SOS, or chipped beef on toast. A nice thick cream sauce base was filled with a good amount of chipped beef that was layered over top of four slices of wheat bread toasted to perfection. For this selection you also get one side, for which Jerry chose their home fries which come seasoned. He really enjoyed the meal and ate every bite of it in no time. Either he was really hungry or the food was just that good.
I chose to be just as unhealthy in my eating by going with the meat lover’s omelette. This thing is packed full of ham, sausage, bacon, and your choice of cheese. I went with the American cheese. Accompanying the omelette was perfectly toasted white toast, and I chose to go with the potato cakes. I was very impressed with the size of the omelette and how much meat was inside of it. You could kind of say I was in heaven. Potato cakes are one of my favorite side dishes, and these did not disappoint. Perfectly formed with shredded potato, a mix of sour cream, chives, onion, and then browned just the way I like them.
I would highly recommend if you are going to be in the area to try this place out and see for yourself what the South Florida Eats team is talking about!
Pricing: $-$$ there are so many good things on the menu, you have to try them all.
