Fat Belly’s Grill and Bar
Fat Belly’s Bar and Grill: 2 Bow Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801
The Restaurant:
When you travel to Portsmouth, NH; you won’t want to miss stopping in at the famous Fat Belly’s. You can’t miss it as you walk around the downtown area and it’s perfect location on the corner of Bow and Market Streets. We were with some of our nephews and our niece checking out the sights of the city when those wonderful grumbles of hunger started to set in. So we decided to stop in and see what this pace was all about.
There is a parking garage not too far so it is easy to find a place to park. Fat Belly’s has two floors, and each one has it’s own unique atmosphere. The main floor is like many restaurants, a casual dining experience serving comfort food. This is probably the more family friendly section and has high tops as well as tables. There is also a small bar with a selection of draft and bottle beers.
Upstairs you will find a unique cocktail lounge featuring New Hampshire’s first “Ice Bar”. There is a DJ every Thursday-Saturday night and the whole place is non-smoking!
The Food:
Let’s just say that you are not going to stop into Fat Belly’s if you are looking for a healthy option. The Salads are going to be the healthiest thing on the menu. And Jerry actually had one of those. It was the Chili Taco Salad. You get a full plate of romaine lettuce, topped with diced tomatoes, taco spiced chili with red beans, and shredded cheese. This is all surrounded by fresh multi-color tortilla chips. He said that the flavor was great and the spice in the chili as just perfect.
Our nephew and I both decided on the Bacon Dogs. Let’s just say that these were some of the best hot dogs I have ever had. Two all beef dogs wrapped in bacon and deep fried. We added cheese to ours as I love a hot dog in melted cheese. There is also an option to get it New York Style, which includes nacho cheese, chili, jalapenos, and caramelized onions. You also get a nice helping of fresh cut french fries, which are perfectly cooked and have the right amount of salt on them. I could eat this dish every day!
But those aren’t the only food options here.
Appetizers:
Fat Belly’s has a nice choice of appetizers with everything from mozzarella sticks and onion rings, to quesadillas, pickle chips, and poutine! You can’t go wrong with all these calorie counting options.
Other Food Options:
You also have a great selection of wings with a large list of sauces. Or maybe you want a burger? Well Fat Belly’s has their own signature burgers that you can choose from like the Fat Mac or Cajun Honey Burger. But you could always build your own if one of their creations doesn’t suit your fancy. A nice selection of sandwiches are available for those wanting a little less grease. Don’t forget some of their specialties like the Philly Steak Bomb or the Build your own Mac & Cheese, just to name a few.
Pricing: $$ for lunch or dinner depending on what you order and if you have drinks
