Hijinx Sports Grill
Hijinx Sports Grill: Royal Palm Place, 133 SE Mizner Blvd., Boca Raton, FL 33432
I must have walked past Hijinx Sports Grill over a dozen times on my way to other eating spots near my office in Boca Raton. Finally, one day I said to my co-workers, let’s try this place out. So three of us went there to see how the food would be. Hijinx Sports Grill is a bar located on one of the side streets off Mizner Blvd. You have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the bar area also offers indoor and outdoor seating. During lunch the place is not usually packed, so it should be easy to get a table. On the day that we decided to grab lunch, we ate inside to get away from the heat.
There are a few booths in the back section, and a bunch of high top tables in the bar area and outside. We chose to sit down at one of the high tops. The wait staff is for the most part very young, and bubbly with personality. You are definitely entering a sports bar and TVs are everywhere to catch up on the latest sports news or watch the big game. You have a full service bar with beers on tap, especially some local IPAs and bottles. Hard Liquor is available as well.
Food:
Up first was Jairo’s order of the “Fowl Mood”. Grilled Chicken topped with avocado, bacon, provolone, lettuce, tomato and red onion. He decided to get it without the bun though to make it a healthy option, served with a side of waffle fries. Jairo said that the meal was very good, the chicken was juicy and flavorful with all the toppings on it.
Next up was Rudy and his “Miss Prissy Gets Nutty. Fried pecan chicken breast topped with honey mustard sriracha BBQ sauce (ordered on the side), lettuce, tomato, and bacon on a brioche bun drizzled with maple syrup. Mmmm Syrup always makes everything just taste better doesn’t it? Rudy couldn’t put down the sandwich and said it was one of the best he has had.
I decided to go with the Chicken Tenders. Nicely breaded, although they are definitely from a freezer and not fresh. Blue Cheese and your choice of wing sauce are served with them. I chose to have the honey BBQ as it is one of my favorite sauces. This really added to the flavor of the tenders and made me very happy. The only downfall with this dish is that it doesn’t come with a side item like the sandwiches. So you end up having to buy a side item which is unusual for a chicken tender meal.
We went back on a second occasion and two of our co-workers had salads. Both of the Salads were presented in huge bowls, a ton of lettuce greens, carrots, tomatoes, and plenty of chicken.
