Jet Runway Cafe
Jet Runway Cafe: 5540 NW 21st Ter, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309
Jet has two locations, one is their full service restaurant and the other is what they call express. The three of us decided to stop by here on a Saturday morning. We thought we were in time for breakfast, but unfortunately we were not, and had to settle for lunch. We went to the location at the Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport off of Commercial Blvd. If you have never been here, it might take some looking around or using a GPS to find the restaurant. It’s located right on the hanger section of the airport. One of the coolest things about this place is that you can sit and watch all the planes taking off and landing. Now it is not those huge jumbo jets, but a good mix of small jets, propeller planes, and even helicopters. We loved this as it really gives you something different to do when eating. Jet Runway Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch every day except they are closed on Sundays. If you have a special event or group, they will do evenings for private parties and events. They also now deliver Mon-Fri 9am-2pm with a $10 minimum order.
Karl had a Bacon Cheeseburger on pretzel bun. It’s a half pound of Angus beef which I always get well done. (I know I know, people always make fun of me for that) Then you have cheddar cheese, and crisp bacon. It was perfectly cooked, as many places try to give you something that is medium well when you ask for well done because they think you are ruining your food. The pretzel bun was a nice alternative and had a buttery coating to it and just a hint of salt. It was accompanied by french fries which were very good as well. Lewis had a burger with fried egg on it since he really wanted breakfast. This gave him the best of both worlds by having his breakfast and lunch together. He got his cooked medium with onions, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, mushrooms to boot. They add a nice little flare by stamping the bun with their logo using a hot iron. He said that his was nice and juicy and cooked exactly how he likes it. The egg gave it a new dimension of flavor mixing with the burger. He also had french fries for his side. Jerry had Crispy Goat Cheese Salad, blackened shrimp, baby spinach, candied pecans, strawberries, blueberries, and balsamic vinaigrette. He happened to be the healthy eater of the three of us. The shrimp come on a skewer and were nicely blackened which is how Jerry likes them. The goat cheese comes in two small balls on the plate and all the fresh spinach and fruit make for a combination of flavors. He asked for the dressing on the side to make sure he only added enough to give extra flavor.
All in all we were very happy with our food selections and want to go back and try it out for breakfast next time.
