Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine
Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine: 2807 E Oakland Park Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33306
The South Florida Eats team decided to stay local for lunch, and Mike suggested that we head to Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine. I had never been to this restaurant on Oakland Park Blvd, even though I have driven by it numerous times heading to A1A. This is a local chain of about 12 restaurants around Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
It’s next to a UPS store and in a strip mall. There is plenty of parking but remember to park street side to avoid the parking meters. (as of the time of publishing this)
The Restaurant:
Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine is nothing fancy. It has a very dated interior with a good number of chairs and tables set up for 4 people and a few for larger groups. We went during lunch, shortly after they opened, and while the inside was not very busy, there was an influx of food deliveries. The service was amazing, and they took great care to ensure our needs were met.
The menu offers a mix of traditional Cuban dishes and desserts. You really can’t go wrong with the choices you make, and there are even daily specials for lunchtime.
Las Vegas Cuban Food:
Mike went with one of the lunch specials, the Filete De Pescado or Fish Filet. This is a filet of white fish lightly breaded and either grilled or fried. It was accompanied by plantains, limes, white rice with cilantro, and moros rice (a flavorful Cuban black beans & rice dish). While was looking for traditional white rice and black beans, they brought him the moros rice by mistake.
Mike still enjoyed the meal even though there was a small mixup with the rice. The fish was flaky and flavorful, according to him, since I don’t normally try anything with fish. I helped finish his plantains, which were cooked perfectly.
For my meal, I chose the Chicharrones de Pollo or chicken chunks. The fried chicken chunks were cooked perfectly and served with plenty of onions, just the way I like them. I went with French fries and plantains for my sides. Unfortunately, the fries had a slight coating, which meant I needed to add ketchup to eat them. Everything else was flavorful and something I would order again.
