Mom’s Kitchen
Mom’s Kitchen: 1940 NE 45th St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308
The three of us decided to try out this quaint little diner off of Federal Hwy. Most of the locals are very familiar with this small place, and you may have to wait a bit in order to get in, especially in season. Even if you have to wait, I am going to say that it is worth it for you. The staff is very cooky and can be quite fun to watch and interact with. For those that may be scared off from looking at the front and lack of parking, don’t leave, just go around the back of the building where there is a larger parking lot. This actually kept us from trying this place a few times until we realized this.
We started with a Greek omelette filled with spinach, feta, and gyro meat. He also had sliced tomatoes on the side in place of the potatoes. Just to note that this place only has home fries. So if you are a hash brown lover like us, you are out of luck. 🙁 The Greek omelette was very good, although a bit dry. But that could have just been bad luck on the day we went. Next up was a country omelette. This had a nice helping of ham mixed in with the green peppers, onions, and potatoes. The mixture gave it a nice flavor, but it too was a little dry to our liking. Seems like most of the omelettes will come out well done. Last up was the star of the day. We had a Philly Cheesesteak with fries. The meat was very tender and had a lot of flavor. The onions were cooked perfectly and the cheese was a nice provolone. Even the roll was very good which is unusual in Florida. I really likes the french fries as ell because they are the thicker steak fries and they were cooked perfectly.
If you are looking for good diner food at a reasonable price, then we definitely recommend checking out Mom’s Kitchen.
