Mustard Seed Bistro
Mustard Seed Bistro: 256 S University Dr, Plantation, FL 33324
Where should we go for lunch? That was the question that a group of us from our day job had to come up with after a meeting and before a flight. One of the managers recommended that we go to the Mustard Seed Bistro in Plantation since we were not too far from there. This little bistro is located across from the Broward Mall on University Drive in Plantation. You can easily miss it if you don’t use a GPS or know where it is since it is tucked away in a strip mall. Just make sure you look for the “Yellow” sign representing a mustard color. This place is small, so it does get very busy around lunch time. They do recommend that you make reservations whether you are going for lunch or dinner, so make sure you plan accordingly. They also will not seat you until your whole party is there.
We had a very nice waitress who took our drink orders. Since it was lunch we stuck with sodas, ice tea, and water. However they do have a full wine menu for those that can indulge. We had a caesar salad which had a nice creamy dressing, rustic croutons and Parmesan cheese. It was fresh and crisp. Next up was the Peruvian Fish Stew. This is a classic that many people order on a regular basis. The broth is a fish base with tomato and has a lot of flavor. You will enjoy the shrimp, mussels, clams, scallops, and salmon that they put into this amazing dish. It is just the right size for lunch. For those that have never had the Banh Mi Steak, you will want to run, not walk to check it out. It is a nicely marinated skirt steak on a French baguette with dikon radish, carrots, cilantro and a sweet Chili aioli. This amazing combination of flavors just melts in your mouth as you eat this great sandwich. Your side is home made chips. Our boss said that this was one of the best sandwiches she has ever had. To say that this place has something for everyone would be an understatement. One of our party is a vegetarian, so she was able to eat the Breaded Eggplant sandwich. It comes on a sub roll, with tomato, arugula, prosciutto (although she asked them to hold that), mozzarella, and basil pesto. It is supposed to be served on ciabatta, but she had it on a French baguette. It was a perfect mix that any vegetarian would love. I personally had the special Strawberry Salad with grilled chicken. There was a nice heap of chicken on the top of the salad. There was a creamy vinaigrette dressing served on the side. Almonds and a dollop of whipped goat cheese was served on top of the bed of romaine lettuce. I really enjoyed eating every bite of this healthy dish. And finally one of my colleagues had the Blackened Shrimp and Quinoa Salad. It was the perfect mix of blackened shrimp, quinoa, grapefruit, avocado, goat cheese, and a citrus vinaigrette. He really enjoyed eating it and said the mix of flavors flowed perfectly together.
The one thing we did not get to try which all of us really wanted to though, was the desserts. We’ve heard that they are very good. We’ll have to go back to check them out and provide an update.
