Anthony’s Runway 84
Anthony’s Runway 84: 330 State Road 84, Fort Lauderdale, Fl 33315
We went to this Ft. Lauderdale favorite with two of our friends. I read a lot of reviews online that gave positive feedback on the place. But we went into the dinner with open minds and not knowing what to expect. The restaurant is located an industrial area off of SR84 near the airport. Thus the name Anthony’s Runway 84. The parking is interesting, since there is a Valet which is really not needed as there is parking right there in front and back of the restaurant. Almost like they are trying to tell you that this is a fancy restaurant, but just located in the wrong area.
As you walk to the front entrance you pass by a oddly located outside bar. Not really sure why it is there, especially since it was closed. You then walk inside and to the left you can enter into the main bar area which also has some booth seating. Straight ahead of you is the hostess stand, and just past that the main dining room. The decor is made so that you think you are inside of a luxury airplane like what used to fly in the late 60’s and 70’s. The decor is not really an issue, however the lighting is very bad. You will need to use a flashlight app on your cell phone in order to read the menu.
First up was a special Rack of Lamb. The lamb was cooked nicely and had a lot of flavor. It came with two sides, a starch and a vegetable. It was cooked to a medium temperature at the request of our friend. Next was the Chicken Rosie. This is a simple chicken breast prepared by being stuffed with spinach, prosciutto, mozzarella, capers, and a mushroom gravy. The dish looks like a mess with way too much gravy. As you can see from the photo, it is basically drowning in it. It really didn’t taste much better either. The Pork Chop Giambotta was actually one of two really good dishes. The chop was full of flavor and was plump with juices flowing out of it. As you can see it almost took up 2/3 of the plate. Last up was the Chicken Parmigiani. This had to be one of the worst dishes we had. The chicken tasted like it was frozen and just plopped into a deep frier. Then they put on the sauce and cheese. It did not even come with any pasta. And the piece of chicken took up the whole plate. Presentation was not good at all and the taste was even worse.
I didn’t even get to the part about our waiter who was less attentive and had no personality.
