Sage French Cafe
Sage French Cafe: 2378 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305
Jerry and I were looking to do something different on a Tuesday night. He has been wanting to take me there for a long time. So I finally said isn’t there a special on Tuesday nights at Sage? He couldn’t remember, but we knew that there was going to be a piano player, which he likes during dinner. So we headed out to Sage French Cafe. Luckily we got there early, around 6pm, because the place was about half full. And after we were seated, it seemed like everyone came in. The place ended up being completely full in both the dining room and bar area. This place is popular in the area and has been around for some time. There is always a cast of characters to watch while dining. You have both inside and outside dining, which is perfect for this time of year. The one bad thing is that the setting sun can get in your eyes while eating in the restaurant so they sometimes have to close the curtains which takes a little away from the atmosphere. But that is just me being picky.
Our waiter was nice enough, however it sometimes took a little longer than I would like to get him to recognize that we needed something or were ready for our next course. We both started off with a Dewar’s and Water on the rocks with a lemon twist. We then had chicken noodle soup and chili with rice. The broth for the chicken soup had a lot of flavor and we loved the thin short noodles. There was just the right amount vegetables and chicken mixed in. I wish I could have this every night. Next was the chili with yellow rice. There was plenty of spice in it and the rice added a little extra to the consistency of it. The two of us could not have been happier with our choices. The main dishes were also something to behold. Jerry had the Bourride Seafood Stew. This was made with Fish, shellfish, choose: white wine lemon cream sauce or Saffron Tomato Broth. He chose the white wine lemon cream sauce. The seafood was very fresh and full of flavor from being cooked in the wine sauce. It did not take long for him to devour it. I had the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables. It was accompanied by a nice green peppercorn sauce which really accented the flavor of the steak. The steak was one of the most tender I have had in a long time and full of flavor. The vegetables were a mix of green beans, carrots, and zucchini. I too was very happy with how my meal was prepared and enjoyed every bite of it. We decided to skip dessert though as we were both full from the main meal.
We would definitely recommend this place as a great restaurant and for something different.
