Sandbar Grille
Sandbar Grille: 2030 N Atlantic Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305
I had never heard of Sandbar Grille until my friend Tim asked me to join him there for dinner. One thing to note is that there is not a lot of parking near the restaurant, so just be aware of that when going to this restaurant. I recommend taking an Uber or Lyft to make your life easier.
The Restaurant:
Sandbar Grille is located inside of the Sun Tower Hotel & Suites. Walking into the restaurant is a little confusing at first. There is a side walkway that goes into the pool area and you will need to open the gate. Once you walk past the pool, there is a small outdoor area under a canvas cover that is not used all of the time. As you walk past that area, you will see the kitchen, and then an area that opens up to a wooden deck. There are a few tables on the upper deck, and then on the lower deck, a few more tables are available. Each and every table has a very good view of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
It’s an amazing view that is worth the price of admission even if the food was not great. But I will say that the food was worth every penny and made for a great meal while enjoying the sound of waves crashing on the beach.
Appetizers:
Sandbar Grille has a nice selection of appetizers for you to choose from. You can choose from a selection of wings, shrimp dishes, calamari, crab cakes, and dips. Mozzarella sticks and a Bavarian Pretzel are very popular items. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzel, which is served with melted cheese and dijon mustard.
I am always confused by it having the name Bavarian in front of it because to me it’s just a soft pretzel. I don’t think there is a real difference other than maybe the size of it compared to other pretzels. It was very tender and had just the right amount of salt. Tim and I devoured it completely while we enjoyed our cocktails.
Main Course:
For our main entrees, I chose to go with the BBQ Chicken Flatbread. This item is made of grilled chicken, onions, tomatoes, and jack cheese drizzled with a smoky-sweet BBQ sauce and topped with fresh basil. The crust itself is thin and cooked to a nice crisp crunch. We both tried it and felt that there was a nice mix of flavors. The size is much bigger than you think when you originally look at it and will be more than enough to fill someone up as their main entree. I would highly recommend it.
The second item we ordered was the Southwestern Chicken Quesadilla. Inside of the crisp crust is chicken, sauteed onions, peppers, black bean veggie crumbles, cheese, salsa, and sour cream on the side. There was a little bit of a kick from the salsa, so if you don’t like spicy foods, this might not be the item you want to order. Tim and I felt that the flavors mixed well and had plenty of chicken inside the tortilla crust. There was enough food that we had leftovers to take home for the next day.
Sandbar Grille has a good mix of tapas and small plates but also some larger main entrees that you can choose from. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a casual restaurant or somewhere nice for a romantic date night.
