Shake Shack
Shake Shack – Fort Lauderdale:
Restaurant:
Shake Shack is a fast casual restaurant that originally started in New York. They started as a hot dog cart back in 2001, and eventually started to open up restaurant locations. They have quickly grown along with many other chains around the fast casual burger scene, especially near college campuses. This is their very first location in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This location took over the spot where the failed Spring Chicken used to be. We watched as they remodeled the store and waited a few weeks once they opened before going in to try it out.
As you enter Shake Shack, you will be in a short line to the counter where you place your order. There are several booths, half tables, high top tables, throughout the space. High ceilings and hard surfaces make for a loud environment. I also felt that there should be more tables as when it got busy people were looking for places to sit. You get a pager after ordering and then when it buzzes, you pick up your food at the pick-up window.
The Food:
Let’s dive into the food and what we had when we visited Shake Shack. The burgers 100% all-natural Angus beef. No hormones and no antibiotics ever. Our proprietary Shack blend is freshly ground. All burgers are cooked medium unless otherwise requested, served on a non-GMO Martin’s Potato Roll.
Jerry ordered the Shack Burger, single patty cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and Shack-sauce. He liked that the bun is a little thinner than most other hamburger buns. The meat is cooked fresh to order and he felt like it lacked a little bit of flavor, although the sauce eventually did provide some as he made his way into the middle of the burger. It was just the right size for him to satisfy his hunger. Jerry also decided to get a chocolate milkshake that he has been having a craving for. Although the size is very small, it was nice and thick and full of chocolate flavor. He was quite satisfied with his meal.
I decided to have the Smoke Shack as my choice. You can get a single or double, I chose the single because I thought I might go back for a hot dog. The burger came topped with American cheese, apple-wood smoked bacon, onions on a potato bun. It normally comes with chopped cherry pepper, but I asked to not have that on mine. The meat itself was a little bland, but the flavors from my toppings were enough to make up for that. I would have liked the bacon a little crisper, but it still was very good. I also added my favorite crinkle cut french fries to the mix. I liked the ones that Shake Shack has as they had the perfect amount of salt and crispness to them. I also had a half & half drink which seemed to taste mostly like iced tea with very little lemonade in it. But it was refreshing and just the right amount.
I never did get that hot dog that I thought I wanted though.
Pricing: $-$$ all depending on how much food your order. For Fast Food, it is kind of expensive, but food was fresh and the South Florida Eats team really enjoyed our burgers.

[…] While it was not overly flavorful, it was still a good burger. However, I would recommend going to Shake Shack, BurgerFi, or Five Guys, where you can get a little more flavorful burger. Next time I will order […]
