Smokey Bones
Smokey Bones: 6500 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33306
I have been craving barbecue since we went on lockdown in March due to Covid. Even though you can go there to eat, I prefer to do takeout or delivery from most restaurants right now. I chose to get my Smokey Bones delivered since I just did not feel like driving. It’s about 15 minutes away from me and I have always loved their food. One of the reasons I had not ordered before now, was that most of the delivery apps had a limited selection from Smokey Bones.
However this time I did find that they now have the option for the combo meals and much more when ordering from Door Dash.
The Food:
To start things off I ordered the fired pickles (one of my all time favorite appetizers anywhere) which comes with a side of ranch dressing for you to dip them in. They were nice and crispy and the batter has a good seasoning to it. I like these because they are the pickle chips which make it easier to eat and the breading stays on them.
I also ordered their soft pretzel sticks. Normally this is an appetizer, but I had been craving a soft pretzel so bad. I decided to eat them as a snack later that night and the next day. They are just as good heated up the next day. The only thing I would not use the second day is the housemade queso which is best eaten hot when it arrives.
For my main meal I ordered my usual combo which is pulled pork and a BBQ grilled chicken breast. I was not sure how it would taste at home versus in the restaurant, but I have to say that it was just like eating at Smokey Bones. The pulled pork was a nice serving size and very tender and had all of the flavor that I remembered. The grilled BBQ chicken breast was a little smaller than I remember, but still had the same great sauce on it. They only lightly brush the BBQ sauce on the chicken to give just a hint of flavor. It’s always got those perfect grill marks as well from the open flame grill they use.
My sides were the steamed broccoli and french fries. The fries are lightly seasoned with pepper and salt, while the broccoli is steamed without any butter. And you can’t forget the famous Smokey Bones garlic toast that comes with your meal.
All in all I was very pleased with my meal and enjoyed it every bit as much as if I was sitting at the bar there eating. I can’t wait to order some more.. hmm I just might have to do that tonight.
