What The Pho
What The Pho: 2033 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL 33305
The Restaurant:
What the Pho is a Vietnamese restaurant in the Island City of Wilton Manors, FL. The owner Huey comes from a long family tradition of restaurants. He decided to open his own restaurant and includes many of the recipes from his families other restaurants and mom’s special take on classic dishes.
Inside you will find some high-top tables as well as regular tables. There is a bar area that you can also sit down and eat at. They used to have their TVs playing music videos around the bar, but on this night there was no music or videos. The restaurant was pretty full for a Wednesday night, and can get really crowded on the weekends. The staff seems to have turned over a few times, but our waiter was very fun and friendly as was the bus boy.
On this night we went with our two friends Henry and Rodney from just outside of Washington, DC. It can be a very fun place to go with a good atmosphere.
The Food:
We’ve been here several times with friends and have tried a few of their many dishes. You can honestly almost get lost in the amount of options you have at What The Pho. If you are not sure what to order you can always ask for recommendations that they will gladly provide. We’ve eaten several times so we will go over several dishes that we have had.
Crispy Mi with chicken and mixed vegetables. This dish consists of crispy egg noodles topped with white onions and mixed vegetables in a delicious garlic sauce and served with a homemade ginger soy sauce. There is alot of flavor in the dish, but I felt that the vegetables could have been cooked a little longer. I love the crispy noodles and would recommend this dish to anyone.
Seafood Pho is one of Jerry’s favorites. This dish includes squid, shrimp, and krabmeat mixed in a beef broth. Onions, cabbage, rice noodles, beansprouts, and basil help enhance the flavor of the broth and really bring this dish to life. Legend has it that if you are fighting a cold or flu, this is a good way to fight it or if you had too many beers.
Chicken Tomato comes in two styles; the regular and Mom’s style. I highly recommend Mom’s style as it will be packed with flavor. You get chicken with celery and onions slow cooked with fresh tomatoes in a tomato soy sauce which adds a new dimension of flavor to this dish. A side of either white or brown rice is included and perfect to soak up the delicious sauce.
Caramel Chicken is white chicken, onion, and scallions simmered in a caramelized garlic sauce. This was not one of my favorite dishes as I thought the sauce was too over powering. Our friends however had the shrimp version of this and they really liked it. SO it really is up to the person eating it and what their personal likes and tastes are.
