Ye Old Coventry Pub
Ye Old Coventry Pub: 1440 S Hanover St, Pottstown, PA 19465
The Restaurant:
I was visiting my dad in Pennsylvania. While there, my brother and I tried to decide where to go for lunch before seeing him. One of my friends from high school recommended trying out Ye Old Coventry Pub. My brother, who lives in Pottstown, had passed by it many times but never stopped to see what the food was like.
When you walk into Ye Old Country Pub, it is like a trip back in time. Old-fashioned wagon wheel lights adorn the ceiling. You have a few tables and a retro wooden bar in the bar area. You can enter the main dining room on the right side as you face the bar.
A constant flow of people came into the restaurant as we sat at the bar. We were there during lunchtime, and many patrons were seated at the bar and tables. A few went into the main restaurant while we were there, but most sat out in the bar area.
The Food:
We both decided to go with my friend Jennifer’s recommendation of the fresh shaved roast beef sandwich. Ye Old Coventry Pub is apparently known for the shaved roast beef and a few other dishes. There is a lovely older gentleman there during the day whose primary job is to shave off the fresh meat for your sandwich.
We both added cheese to the sandwich. At the recommendation of our waitress, we ordered only one basket of french fries. There was more than enough for the two of us, and we didn’t even finish them all. They are seasoned and have a nice flavor to them.
The shaved roast beef was cooked perfectly. The size of it is like the giant roast beef from Arby’s, but this has a lot more flavor to it. It’s served on a fresh bun that reminds me a bit of a kaiser roll but slightly different. The meat just melted in our mouths, and we devoured our sandwiches. We were delighted with the choice we made and would go back to try some of their other specialties, like the shaved ham.
