Herradura Vieja
Herradura Vieja: 7 Summer Street Chelmsford, MA 01824
I was visiting Mike, and when he asked what I was hungry for, I immediately said Mexican food. He suggested we go to one of his favorite spots, Herradura Vieja, in Chelmsford, MA. The restaurant is located in a nondescript strip mall near the center of town.
The Restaurant:
From the outside, if it were not for the sign telling you that Herradura Vieja was located inside, you probably would never know that one of the best Mexican restaurants was inside. The giant horseshoe is a giveaway that you have found the right place.
Once you enter, you will find a bar area, along with several very comfortable booths. Some of the booths have two chairs and a bench, while others have two benches. There are also several tables with chairs in the main dining section. No matter where you sit, you are guaranteed to be very comfortable.
The wait staff remembered Mike, and the next time I went with him, they remembered us both. This is what I call quality service. If memory serves correctly, we even ended up with the same waiter. The menu is full of unique dishes, and my mouth waters every time I look at it. It’s very hard to choose just one favorite.
Herradura Vieja Food:
Mike chose the Pollo al Chipotle. Herradura Vieja serves it with grilled marinated chicken strips tossed in chipotle sauce, then served with rice, guacamole salad, sour cream & flour tortillas. The sauce and spices mix together and marinate the chicken so that the flavors travel throughout each and every bite. He enjoyed it so much that I had to take a few bits and try it for myself. I think I’ll get this dish the next time I am there.
I decided to try the Enchiladas Verdes, two chicken enchiladas topped with green tomatillo sauce & shredded cheese, served with rice & beans. As you can see from the photo, I don’t get the beans. I have never been a fan of them for some reason. The sauce and cheese added the right amount of flavor to the enchiladas, and my tummy was very happy with the decision I had made. I can’t wait to try some of the other options that Herradura Vieja offers on my next visit.
When our friend Chuck goes, he chooses the Grande Special, one of their favorites. You will get to select Pollo or Beef. Then you will receive one of each: Chalupa, chile relleno, enchilada, hard taco, burrito, rice & beans. This is definitely a meal that you will have to take something home with you.
