Hideaway Pizza
Hideaway Pizza: 5501 Northwest Expy, Warr Acres, OK 73132
Hideaway Pizza is a small local chain of pizza restaurants in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas. One of my work colleagues took me and another colleague here for lunch one day while we were training some bankers. I wasn’t really sure about going somewhere that I am not familiar with to get pizza. But I was hungry and they were driving. They have been around since 1957, and have had some locations come and go. Currently there are 19 locations.
The Restaurant:
The restaurants all look a bit different as they build them based on the area they are going. Like the ones downtown take on the historic building’s character, and the ones outside of the city center are more of a cookie cutter design. They have a funky character as their mascot, who is on the signs, menus, and even the cups!
Inside you will find a mix of booths, tables, and even a bar. The wait staff are usually pretty attentive, and provide prompt service and advice on which pizza you should try. Depending on the time of day that you go, it could get busy, so make sure you plan ahead.
The Pizza:
I was able to fit all three of the pizzas in the photo below. But let’s explain what Hideaway Pizza served us. Since it was lunch time, we each got the personal lunch portion pizza, and some of them were even on special.
First up was Kelly’s pizza. She decided to go with “Da Bomb”. Now this is one of Hideaway Pizza’s specialties and comes topped with Hideaway Red Sauce, mozzarella, Genoa salami, pepperoni, basil, pineapple, balsamic drizzle, and parmesan herb shake. Kelly chose not to get the pineapples on hers though. Now at first you might say that doesn’t sound like a great concoction of flavors, but you would be wrong. Kelly enjoyed every bite of it and didn’t even leave any to take home. I think I saw record time in her plate being empty.
Next up was Billy’s pizza, which had a little kick to it. He went with “The Boz”. This pizza comes topped with Hideaway red sauce, mozzarella, cheddar, bacon, pepperoni, sausage, jalapeno, and red bell pepper. Billy loved the two different cheeses and the mix of meat flavors that this pizza brought him. He is also a fan of spicy foods and thought that there could have been more peppers, but it was a good amount of spice in my opinion.
The final pizza we had at Hideaway Pizza was the “Pepperonipalooza”. Just saying the name makes my mouth water all over again. Now this pizza comes topped with Hideaway red sauce, mozzarella, cup & crisp pepperoni, deli style pepperoni, Hideaway traditional pepperoni, and parmesan herb shake. For those not knowing there was more than one type of pepperoni, let me break it down for you. My favorite is the cup & crisp pepperoni. It starts to cur on the edges as it cooks and gets nice and crisp and has a very good flavor. The deli style pepperoni is the largest of the three types. It’s not great crisping, and a little greasier than other types, but still good. The traditional in the middle as far as size goes, and provides a great flavor profile, while still being able to crisp nicely when cooked properly.
The crusts on the pizza are a bit thicker than I normally like, but it was nice and crisp as well on all three of our pizzas. We truly enjoyed every bite and I can not wait to get back there and try one of their other pizzas, like the “Big Country”.
