No Name Taco Bar
No Name Taco Bar: 2306 E Oakland Park Blvd., Ft Lauderdale FL 33306
The South Florida Eats team was on the prowl for something new and delicious to try out. Honestly unless you know where the No Name Taco Bar is, you probably have missed it just as many times as we did. I happened upon it one day when pulling into the shopping center to go somewhere else. This little gem is located in the small strip mall right off of Federal Highway and Oakland Park Blvd. When we arrived at the restaurant there were not many people inside, but one table outside.
The Restaurant:
There are two tables outside if you want to enjoy the lovely Florida weather. Inside you will find six tables, mostly sitting four people, but one will seat up to six. There is also a small counter which seats about six to eight people as well. We obviously chose the counter since Jerry just loves to sit there.
The menu is a mix of Mexican street food. Our waitress, the owner, and the chef are all fun and really made our dinner special. We have actually been there several times now and this review is a mix of two different times there.
The Food:
I have always loved orange soda as a kid, so I opted for Jarritos Mandarin. This is a traditional drink from Mexico, made with natural sugar and flavors. I have to say it was really good. Since we always enjoy good guacamole, we started with the chips and guac. It’s a fresh homemade guac that has one of the best flavors I’ve tasted in a long time. We also loved their chips which were warm with just the right amount of salt on them.
Jerry went with one of his all time favorites, the Cabo Fish Tacos. Fresh flaky grilled white-fleshed ocean fish (whatever is freshest is what they go with) served on 3 warm corn tortillas topped with our delicious chipotle mayo slaw and a sprinkling of cilantro make up the tacos. Jerry gobbled them up in no time and said that the fish tasted very good with a mix of citrus and spices, even though he did not use the chipotle mayo slaw..
The first time I chose the Dorados “El Tri”, 3 crispy rolled-up corn tortillas chuck-full of your choice of shredded chicken or shredded beef served with Mexican cream, red and green salsa, and crumbled queso fresco (semi soft fresh Mexican cheese). The owner asked me when I ordered this if I had ever had it before. I actually have, so I told him yes. The reason for that was that many people who have not had it before don’t like it because of how crispy the tortillas are and the inside meat as well. You can choose either beef or chicken as your meat inside of them. I tried the chicken this time and was in heaven. This is one of my favorite dishes and the No Name Taco Bar did not disappoint.
The second time we went Jerry and I both opted for the Quesadilla con Carne. Two grilled melted cheese and steak quesadillas with your choice of corn or flour tortillas served with guacamole and sour cream. You can also get salsa if you would like to add that to it or pico de gallo. A nice helping of guacamole and sour cream accompany your meal to add even more flavor. The quesadillas look small when you get them on the plate, but I must tell you after just two of them we were very full.
You should definitely stop into this little spot, but make sure you put it in the GPS so you don’t miss it.
Pricing: $$ not very expensive, but great tasting food that our South Florida Eats team really enjoyed.
