Spatch Peri Peri
Spatch – Peri Peri: 468 N Federal Hwy, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308
Spatch is a small restaurant located next to the Fresh Market on Federal Hwy in Ft. Lauderdale. Their website claims the space is 2500 sq ft. of space, but I am not sure that is accurate, it is smaller than that. You can seat 80 people indoors and outdoors at a variety of tables and booths. There is a huge chalk board with the menu of items located on it. You can choose from various items like sandwiches, salads, Spatch Bowls, and their primary dish of flame grilled Peri-Peri Chicken which you can choose various flavors (a split and flattened bird, marinated in secret spices, grilled over flames and smothered in their unique sauces.) Those sauces are: Spatch Peri-Peri Hot, Spatch Peri-Peri Medium, Spatch Peri – Peri Mild, Lemon & Herb, Sticky Mango, Plain.
Jerry and I decided to go here on a Friday night when we were looking for something new. So we decided to stop at Spatch around 7pm. It was not very busy for a Friday night at dinner time. When you enter you will order your food at the front registers just inside the entrance, and then they deliver your food to your tables when it is ready.
The Food:
Jerry decided that he was going to try the Pineapple Chicken sandwich. You get a grilled chicken thigh, you can add any peri peri sauce you want, grilled pineapple, avocado, pickled onions, cilantro, and Spatch Peri mayo. This is on top of a home made bun. You get to choose one side item, and he chose the rice and beans. He was not overly thrilled with his sandwich and said that it was nothing special. Jerry also chose not to have any sauce on his chicken.
I decided to try the Peri-Peri chicken meal with grilled chicken breasts. The sauce I chose was the Lemon & Herb and a side of french fries and coleslaw. The chicken was perfectly grilled and I thought that the marinade and the lemon & herb sauce really made the chicken moist and flavorful. I thought it was a very good meal. The french fries were okay and cooked the way I like them, and the coleslaw was filled with raisins, and cranberries which added to the good flavor.
Overall our reactions were mixed as I liked my meal, but Jerry was not wowed by his. Overall I think it is worth trying at least once to see if you like it.
