World of Beer – Orlando
World of Beer – Orlando: 431 E. Central Blvd., Orlando, FL 32801
World of Beer is a chain of bars and restaurants around the country. They are a franchise system. I went to the location they have in downtown Orlando with a few colleagues from work. Apparently one of our associates is a regular there. This location is fairly decent in size with both indoor and outdoor seating. There are 3 bars and then a bunch of high tops, booths, and other types of seating. The place was very busy which I thought was interesting for a Thursday night.
The Seating:
Our group chose to sit at one of the high tops tables in the back which has three stools to sit on and a booth type bench across the back for an additional three people to sit at. The stools are some of the most uncomfortable that I have ever sat on. I really could not wait to get up from the table to leave. The tables were also so close together that you kept getting hit by people walking by. That set up the rest of the evening and how bad it was. It always amazes me when restaurants don’t actually use comfortable seating. Did they even sit in it themselves to see how their guests would feel? And if World of Beer is going to franchise their concept, they should give the owners more flexibility to have comfortable seating and layouts.
The Food:
So let’s get right into the food. I ordered a Pesto Chicken Sandwich with tater tots. The chicken itself was nicely grilled and had good flavor, but they really skimped on it. Basically it is half of a half chicken breast. They then slice that in half again the long way to put on the toasted hoagie roll. So you really don’t get much chicken at all. On top of it they add tomato and mozzarella cheese. Tow us had this sandwich and we both added the tater tots. That was a mistake, we should have had the steak fries. The tots looked like they were actually freezer burned before they were deep fried. I would not recommend getting them if you go.
Another of my colleagues had the Flat Iron Steak sandwich. This is sliced seasoned steak, with sweet pickled onions, fresh arugula, goat cheese, and aioli served on a hoagie roll. He said that the sandwich was pretty good and he really liked the tavern fries (steak fries). Our female colleague decided to have the IPA Salmon. This has a Spicy IPA Glaze on it, and is served with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. She thought that the salmon had some good flavor, but the potatoes and broccoli left a little to be desired.
