Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant
Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant: 17 SW 1st Street, Dania Beach, FL (at US1)
Grampa’s is a local fixture in the Dania community for many years. They started back in 1957 and have been going strong ever since. You can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner at this diner. They’ve even been featured on “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives”. They also cater and do wedding cakes, although I am not sure I would get my wedding cake from a diner bakery? They are located off of US 1 right in the heart of Dania Beach near Jaxson’s Ice Cream. There is a decent amount of parking and the restaurant portion is huge with plenty of space if you wanted to have a meeting or family dinner/reunion. One thing that always gets my funny bone is when a restaurant has their menus double as place-mats. I mean really…
We were hungry (hey when am I not hungry, LOL) and driving back from Hollywood heading north on Federal Hwy. Jerry suggested that we stop by Grampa’s as he loves the place and had not been there in a long while. So we pulled in during lunch time and it was pretty busy. This place is definitely a hit with the older crowd. You probably won’t find too many millennials eating here. They do have a pretty robust menu for you to choose from.
Food:
Jerry had the Reuben which is lean corned beef on grilled Rye bread, with sauerkraut, swiss cheese and served with a side of coleslaw. He said the corned beef was very tender and had a lot of flavor. The portion size is just perfect and hit the spot. The coleslaw was nice and fresh and he really enjoyed that as well. For me I had a grilled chicken sandwich with american cheese on it. The chicken was very bland tasting. If it were not for the cheese it would have had no taste at all. The french fries that came with it were the crinkle cut kind, which are my favorite. They were nice and crisp and tasted good. I however was not a fan of the cole slaw. Again I thought it was kind of bland as well and could have used a little kick up in the flavor department. It was fresh, but just need a little something to give it more flavor for me.
Our waitress was very nice and took good care of us. I would recommend that you at least try this place once. Jerry and I both had different experiences with our meals, which is like many diners. You will have some home run items, and some misses. You just have to keep trying until you find the dish you like.
Pricing: $-$$ for breakfast and lunch, $$-$$$ for dinner
